Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on citizens to use their votes to demand change.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Atiku linked the call to the rising cost of living and growing security concerns across the country.
He described the economic pressure facing Nigerian families, noting that many parents are struggling to provide food for their children, while pensioners face difficult choices between buying food and paying for medication.
He also highlighted the challenges confronting young workers, including rising transport fares and rent, as well as the fear of kidnapping and attacks affecting communities.
Atiku Criticises Tinubu’s Administration
The former vice-president criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the country’s economic and security challenges.
Atiku said Nigerians should not underestimate the power of their votes and urged them to participate peacefully in the democratic process.
“Your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he wrote, encouraging eligible voters to ensure they have their PVCs before the next election.
He also argued that the government must address the cost of living and restore security so Nigerians can live and work without constant fear.
Why the PVC Matters
The Permanent Voter Card is required for eligible Nigerians to vote in elections. With the 2027 general elections approaching, political leaders and electoral stakeholders are expected to intensify voter mobilisation.
Atiku’s statement adds to the growing political debate over the economy, security and the direction of the country ahead of the next election.
NH’s Take
Collecting your PVC is an important step, but participation does not end there. Nigerians also need reliable information about candidates, their policies and their records.
As the 2027 elections approach, voters will have to decide which leaders can best address the issues affecting their daily lives.
